The attempted burglary was reported around 9:52 p.m., Sunday, July 21, at a home on Point Street in New Hamburg, said Town of Poughkeepsie Police Capt. Kevin Faber.

The neighbor told police they saw Patricia Nelthrope, of the Bronx, enter their neighbor's house through an unlocked front door, said Faber.

The residents of the home were inside and asleep at the time, he said.

The neighbor confronted Nelthrope as she exited the home with property from inside and engaged her in conversation to keep her there until officers arrived on the scene, Faber said.

Following a brief conversation, officers arrived and arrested Nelthrope.

Nelthrope was charged with burglary, grand larceny, and petit larceny. She was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash/$40,000 bond.
